Speaker Bio
I am a second-year biology teacher at Marion P. Thomas High School. Before coming to Marion P, I worked at Kean University for over 5 years working with programs such as EOF and Upward Bound Program. While working with EOF I worked with first generation college students and helped them transition to college. During my time with Upward Bound Program, I worked with high-school students that provided opportunities for participants to be exposed to a college atmosphere while receiving extra support in precollege classes that would prepare them for a successful college experience. I have a master’s in Biotechnology with an intensive research background studying conservation molecular mycology. My undergraduate degree is in biology and chemistry. I have traveled around the world presenting my research at various conference and have received many accolades for my hard work with my mycology research. After my Peer Director role at Kean University, I became the Director of STEMPact, which is a partnership with Kean University and Union County College that provided opportunities to 2-year college students at Kean University to conduct research. I love science and now being able to share my love with bright scholars is a dream come true. Being at Marion P. Thomas allows me to connect my love for science and passion for teaching science. It is my desire to reveal to students, especially students in urban communities the impact of science and the many career doors science affords. I take proud as Black and Latino woman in the STEM field and want to help break the stereotypes and stigmas that science education has with our urban students. I am honored to be a science teacher and ready to share my gift of knowledge to students.
